That’s why we were proud to collaborate with Unity5 to support the incredible work of Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team (DSRT) Ashburton, a 24/7 volunteer-run rescue charity covering Dartmoor and East Devon.
Tackling Connectivity Challenges in Remote Terrain
Previously, DSRT Ashburton relied on traditional network service, which often failed in Ashburton’s rugged, rural landscape. That meant link disruptions during rescues. A safety risk in time-sensitive situations.
To address this, Unity5 donated two Starlink Mini units plus a year’s subscription. Equipping both base and mobile incident control with satellite-grade internet. Accompanying this, Go2Sim provided five essential SIM cards to bolster connectivity during critical rescue operations.
What This Means for DSRT Ashburton
According to Al Pewsey, the team’s ICT Officer, the new tech has been transformative:
“We are now equipped to fully embrace digital technologies that enhance our operations. This transformative connectivity empowers our search managers with access to collaborative planning tools and advanced communication capabilities, improving the effectiveness of our rescue response.”
DSRT Ashburton handles around 40 rescue missions annually, including habitat rescues, missing-person searches, and support for vulnerable individuals. Their operations now benefit from both satellite and mobile coverage. Vital in environments where traditional service falters.
